Perché vuole studiare Italiano? Why do you want to study Italian? Many of my students say they want to learn to speak the language they consider the most enchanting, musical, and charming of all. In the words of Dianne Hales (La Bella Lingua) “This lyrical language thrills the ear, beguiles the mind, captivates the heart, enraptures the soul, and comes closer than any other idiom to expressing the essence of what it means to be human.” Che meraviglia! And yet, as much as these considerations make me swell with pride, the value of learning Italian is certamente not limited to its seductive sounds. We cannot separate the language from the culture. As one of the most desired tourist destination in the world, Italy welcomes millions of enthusiastic visitors every year. I strive to convey to my students my deep passion for my country, culture, and language by focusing on conversation and real life situations. My goal is to empower them with the ability to connect with Italians in their own language. As a result, their experience nel mio amato stivale (in my beloved boot) is greatly enhanced. Speaking Italian opens a door to the culture and breaks down barriers; it instills a real sense of belonging. My students often tell me they felt they were living in Italy like Italians and actually getting a delicious taste of la dolce vita. Allora, andiamo!
